ComposTumbler - Frequently Asked Questions
When will my order ship?
Orders normally ship within two to five business days. Once your order has been shipped, a tracking number will be sent via email to determine when your package will arrive (usually two to five business days).
How are orders shipped?
Most items are sent using FedEx Home Delivery service. The Original and ComposTumbler2 models will arrive in two boxes (50 - 60 lbs each). The Compact and Back Porch models arrive one box each (60 lbs and 40 lbs, respectively).
Is assembly difficult?
Not at all. Assembly can be completed with common household tools and in most cases will take only 1 to 1-1/2 hours to complete. You will receive a comprehensive assembly guide to walk you through the process. And if you should have any questions, every member of our Customer Service Group (1-888-820-5114) has experience assembling our products and would be happy to assist you.
Why does the Back Porch model take 4-6 weeks?
An important factor in making compost in 14 days is the amount of materials being used. Sufficient volume helps retain the high temperatures generated by the materials in your ComposTumbler. The high temperatures are what help to rapidly decompose your materials. The Back Porch model is not large enough to hold those high temperatures. It was designed for customers that want the benefits of quick composting (instead of the slow pile method) but only have small amounts of material to use.
Is an activator required?
No. If you have a sufficient supply of high-nitrogen "green" material (fresh grass, kitchen/ yard waste, farm manure...) you will not need to use activator. Activators work as a replacement source of nitrogen for times when you don't have an adequate supply of those materials.
Can I compost in winter?
Your composting season is effective when the outside temperatures are consistently 40 degrees or higher. During colder months, your ComposTumbler should be emptied and cleaned out. The exception is our Back Porch model. Because of its high-density plastic drum, material can be stored inside it during winter.
What should I do with materials when my drum is full or not in use?
All materials (except grass) can be stored for future use. They can be stored in bags and plastic trash cans or buckets.
How long will my ComposTumbler last?
All ComposTumbler models have been designed to provide you with many years of use. Our metal drums are galvanized to provide rust resistance. The frames are tubular steel for strength and support. Plastic parts are made of high-density polyethylene. As with any garden tool, periodic care helps to get the maximum value from your purchase. With your ComposTumbler, you will receive easy instructions for keeping the unit in tip-top shape. And for those customers looking for additional protection, we do offer a heavy-duty, weatherproof, vinyl cover for the Original, Compact and ComposTumbler2 models.
Does my purchase come with a warranty?
Our warranty is simple, honest, and straightforward. All ComposTumbler models are warranted against defects in materials or workmanship for 5 years from the date of delivery. We will replace any defective part (or the entire unit if necessary) at our expense. This warranty is given to the original owner and is not transferable, nor does it apply to any damage caused by misuse.
How does the trial period work?
You can try a ComposTumbler in your yard or garden for 30 days (60 days for the Back Porch model). See for yourself how easily you can make rich, natural compost. If within that time you feel it isn't all we said, dismantle it, hose it off and ship it back to us for a refund of the full purchase price (excluding shipping charges).
Which ComposTumbler is right for me?
The Original model is for homeowners that regularly accumulate 5 or 6 trash bags (up to 168 gallons) of material every couple of weeks. For customers that generate 2-3 trash bags of material regularly (up to 88 gallons), then the Compact model is right for you. The ComposTumbler2 is for those who generate 2-3 bags of materials each week and want a continuous supply of compost. If you accumulate less, or prefer to add small amounts daily, then you should consider our Back Porch model. In other words, select the largest size that you can regularly fill.
